Our main video man Smitty is making a wild style documentary of the gonzo process of making the craziest, biggest and best one day Valentine’s Day festival Los Angeles has ever seen.  Here’s how Smitty tells it:

LUCENT L’AMOUR THE MOVIE is a hybrid documentary/narrative/musical/comedy, inspired by “wild style” and “lighting over water” as well as the films of John Cassavettes and the contemporary DIY film/video movement. It will be shot with multiple cameras over multiple formats. The story is told through interviews, archival footage, improvised scenes, actual events and the meta-data (the behind the scenes of the shooting of the film). The final product is a feature film experience unlike any other.

For 13 days (feb 3rd-15th) we will shoot everyday. Depending on who is available, the cast and crew will constantly be changing. every day, after shooting is wrapped, we will go home and edit the footage and then have something posted online before bed. All leading up to the grand celebration of Lucent L’amour.

Day 1:

Random Acts of Irreverent Dance is a radically inclusive and absurdly ambitious dance project, created in 2006 by Ramie Becker. Starting out as a guerrilla dance collective that terrorized downtown LA and Hollywood, RAID soon found a home at BootieLA’s monthly mashup club at the Echoplex. Now, almost every month, Random Acts of Irreverent Dance raids the Echoplex stage and imposes their bizarre dance sensibilities on an unsuspecting crowd of BootieLA patrons. They’ve since performed at Bootie San Francisco, as well as the Electric Daisy Carnival and Nocturnal.  With a roll call 30 members deep, RAID continues to astound, amaze, bewilder, and delight audiences with a playful approach to dance-making, and they continue to revel in the glory of gold spandex.

Fire Groove is known for their daring, sexy, one of a kind Fire and Cirque shows combining fire with Burlesque, Aerial arts, Ballet ,Stilting, Comedy and Contortion. All of their custom costumes are one of a kind and created by Fire Groove. If you can dream it… We will create it!

A merging of the latest advances in digital art projection technology with the internal principles of dance, Andrew Jones and Phaedra Ana are pioneering the emergence of a new type of interactive expression which has been termed fourth density dance: a unique fusion of live painting and live movement.
On stage, fluidity of motion intuitively blends in with the flow of different dynamic objects moved around in space. Using a combination of proprietary software and hardware enables the projected visuals to organically tune into  dancer’s movements following in real time so that a new level of spatial depth is achieved.

Caia Koopman is a native of California and was born in Livermore. She majored in fine art and earned a B.A. at UC Santa Cruz, California. Santa Cruz turned out to be the place that seduced her to the local skateboarding scene. Her artwork has been featured in numerous national and international print media including Surfing Girl, Mademoiselle, Details, Girl’s Life, Snowboarder Magazine, Teen, Teen Style, Teen People, J-14, Fine , and others. Caia has shown her paintings in a number of galleries around the world and most recently at La Luz de Jesus in LA. She is currently working as a freelance illustrator and painter in Oceanside, CA. Caia is inspired by nature, dreams, politics, and life.

The Wandering Marionettes, a Los Angeles based dance, circus and performance art troupe blending circus-freak and goth-punk aesthetics with hip-hop moves and attitude, creating a truly unique, dark and
mysterious glamour certain to mesmerize and inspire. What started out as a creative young woman’s simple yet eerily
captivating performance art piece at the infamous Burning Man festival of 2005 has since become the beloved endeavor of a talented group of individuals. Having cut it’s teeth playing the LA underground party scene and performing with its sister group Cirque Berzerk, the WM crew has come into it’s own as a full fledged professional performance art troupe booking gigs in cities across the US.

Stilt Circus is a collective of Stilt Dancers and Performing Artists merging together to bring you entertainment from up high. Performing a variety of theatrical circus shows including Stilt Acrobatics,Stilt Fire Dancing, Stilt Aerial, Choreographed Dance, Unicycle, Juggling, Clowning and much more. The cast of Stilt Circus have been performing all over the world at various Corporate events, Theme Parks, Festivals and International Music Tours since 2000 and can be seen in a variety of national commercials.

Rajiv Jain is a performing artist living in Los Angeles. He studied drawing and painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art, and theatre at the University of Maryland. Currently he runs a figure drawing workshop at the Catalyst Artist Collective in downtown Los Angeles. He builds and performs with The Lucent Dossier Experience.
